Sir David Jason 'so weak' to stand after catching Covid: 'I collapsed'

Sir David Jason revealed that his ‘muscles’ weren’t working and even felt too ‘weak’ to stand after testing positive for coronavirus in July.

The 82-year-old actor, famous for his roles in Only Fools and Horses and Darling Buds of May, detailed the impact the virus had on his body.

‘I got it seriously bad. Because all the muscles weren’t working.

‘I collapsed and I fell against the radiator… I was so weak, I couldn’t get up.’

During his interview on BBC Breakfast, he continued: ‘I crawled to the bed. The muscles weren’t working and I used the bed to try and stand up so that I could go to where I wanted to get, and also get back into bed, and I couldn’t.

‘I tried for about a quarter of an hour, trying all sorts of things to stand up so I could walk about.’

The Del Boy star later revealed that while he laid face down on the floor, he would use his head to ‘drag’ himself to the door.

‘So just as I got to the door, the door opened… and it was my good lady wife and she managed to help me get back into bed,’ he said.

‘But later on the next day, I got carpet burns all down on my forehead and across the top of my nose.’

Sir David has made a full recovery and is publishing a book which details his precious memories from Only Fools and Horses titled The Twelve Dels Of Christmas.

The comedy series, in which Sir David plays the lead role of Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter has gained immense popularity since its release in the early 80s for its quick-wit jokes.

Sir David starred alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst as Rodney, from 1981 until 1991.

The series was then followed by occasional specials until it ended in 2003, with Sir David and Nicholas reprising their roles for a Sport Relief special in 2014.

Sir David has said recently he would love to reprise his beloved role, telling The Sun in January: ‘I’ve always loved Del Boy, who is such a wonderful loser. I would love to revisit him, I need someone to write me a script.

‘As a show, it’s very important we don’t forget about it, it has a huge following, it fills in that need for an awful lot of people.’

Only Fools and Horses is available to watch on BritBox.
