Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) was left seething with rage in Coronation Street as he discovered via Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) that Yasmeen had decided to plead not guilty, and therefore, fight back against his abuse.
Yasmeen was facing a life behind bars for attacking Geoff, but what she didn’t realise was that she had been the victim of abuse at his hands for months.
Alya did everything she could to convince her gran that she was pushed to the brink prior to the attack, and therefore it wasn’t her fault.
As Yasmeen took to the stand to enter her plea, all of Geoff’s hurtful insults ran through her head, as she pondered her fate.
With the judge having asked her a third time to reveal her plea, Yasmeen opted for not guilty — much to the delight of Alya, Cathy (Melanie Hill) and Eileen (Sue Cleaver).
Tim (Joe Duttine) was horrified when he heard Yasmeen wanted to go to court, and therefore he slipped off home to tell his dad.
However, Alya made it back to the cobbles first, and wasted little time in revealing that Yasmeen had pleaded not guilty.
Geoff was far from pleased at such a revelation — knowing that his lies could all fall apart in a courtroom.
What’s more, Yasmeen’s decision further cemented Geoff as the villain in Sally’s (Sally Dynevor) eyes, and therefore she asked Tim to kick him out of their house.
Geoff’s narrative is evidently starting to unravel, but — with Yasmeen determined to fight — will the truth come out at last?
Coronation Street continues Friday 12 June at 7:30pm on ITV.
