Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale saw Sam Dingle (James Hooton) arrested for theft and assault, so could he be headed for a stint in prison?
Times have been hard for both the Dingles and the Spencers since the cost of living crisis, and the arrival of baby Esther hasn’t done them any favours.
Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) is struggling to pay the bills, leaving daughter Amelia (Daisy Campbell) concerned.
Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), who has been helping to raise Esther, has offered to help out using the money from his trust fund, though Dan has so far declined it.
Instead he approached Sam Dingle, Esther’s other granddad, and asked him to contribute towards the cost of raising their grandchild.
Viewers will know that Sam and Lydia (Karen Blick) are also struggling to make ends meet, and are working every possible hour to keep food on the table.
Despite this, Sam was desperate to help out, fearing that Dan would be forced to move away with Esther if he couldn’t pay the bills, meaning that Samson (Sam Hall) wouldn’t get to see his daughter.
He approached Cain (Jeff Hordley) for help, though he insisted there was nothing he could do. Instead he reminded Sam that he was a Dingle so he’d figure something out.
And figure something out he did, though it wasn’t quite what Cain had in mind.
With Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) distracted in the shop, Sam took his chance, swiping a pack of nappies.
However, Pollard has a watchful eye, and ended up catching him in the act.
Panicking, Sam made a run for it, only to have Eric chase after him.
As Eric grabbed hold of him, Sam pushed him off, sending Eric crashing to the ground.
It was then that the police were called. They took statements from Eric and Amelia, who had witnessed the event, before arresting Sam for theft and assaulted.
Sam later pointed out to a disappointed Lydia that he already had a criminal record, and could end up being sent to prison.
Will that really be the case, or will Sam manage to get himself out of this, in true Dingle style?
