Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) relished the thought of getting revenge on Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and bezzy mate James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) in Hollyoaks, but — after Sylver (David Tag) made her see the bigger picture — she realised that she was as much to blame as anyone for what transpired, and therefore, she took responsibility.
With Liam’s (Jude Monk McGowan) death all anyone could talk about in the village, Mercedes got herself dressed and prepared to head to the police station to make a statement — one in which she intended to dob James and Grace in for shooting her.
Meanwhile, an emotional Grace — having informed Courtney (Amy Conachan) of everything — asked her sister-in-law to take care of Curtis, as she revealed her plans to hand herself in for Liam’s murder.
Similarly, James had one last day with Marnie (Lysette Anthony), Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) and Romeo (Owen Warner) before handing himself into the police for conspiring to murder.
However, as Mercedes relished in the moment of getting her sweet revenge, Sylver reminded her that — while Grace’s actions were appalling, they were a direct result of the mess that she and Liam had started, and therefore she’d need to accept some responsibility.
Knowing Sylver was right — coupled with the fact that Curtis was about to lose his mum — Mercedes went straight to the police station, where she bumped into James and Grace — both of whom were awaiting their fate.
Mercy listened as James apologised to her profusely and genuinely, and she revealed that — in an effort to accept responsibility — she was going to take the blame for Liam’s demise.
She told the police that she was trying to defend herself from Liam, claiming that he was the one who shot her, and therefore wanted her dead — clarifying that his death an accident.
As James and Grace awaited Mercedes at The Dog, she revealed that it’s all been sorted — all of them are off the hook.
As the three characters headed in their separate directions, they deliberated what life had in store for them next — confident that this chapter is well and truly at an end.
Hollyoaks continues Friday 27 March at 7pm on E4.
