This week’s edition of Have I Got News For You took a look back at even more Cabinet reshuffles this week as new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak entered Downing Street on Monday. Host Steph McGovern has also taken aim at fellow broadcaster Piers Morgan, whose Uncensored show on TalkTV has been struggling to find its audience.
Packed Lunch presenter McGovern has slammed Morgan’s TalkTV series after the host took a break over the last week, with Dorries stepping in during his absence.
It’s unknown if the former Secretary of State will be coming back to the Cabinet, but the Mid Bedfordshire MP has still managed to make her way into the headlines.
On this week’s Have I Got News For You, the host and guests Professor Hannah Fry and Jimmy McDonald mocked Dorries’ efforts as Uncensored’s temporary host.
McGovern asked panellists Ian Hislop and Paul Merton: “What’s she been up to this week?”
Merton replied: “She took over Piers Morgan’s TV show. He’s been on holiday, and it didn’t go well.”
“Nadine Dorries has been sitting in on Piers Morgan’s ‘smash-hit’ TalkTV show,” McGovern sarcastically explained to jeering laughs from the audience. “Piers Morgan: Unwatched!”
Hislop retorted sarcastically, “Oh really, I think that’s very unfair!” before collapsing into a fit of giggles.
“Let’s see how she did,” McGovern said as the show cut to footage of Dorries flubbing one of her intros.
Co-host Emily Sheffield opened the show before Dorries failed to guide viewers through Tuesday night’s schedule.
“Coming up on tonight’s programme, for a change a man who’s going to clean up a woman’s mess,” she said of Sunak taking office. “That’s Rishi’s vow as he enters Number 10.”
Her following description was all but incomprehensible as she read out the headlines over footage of Jeremy Hunt and Suella Braverman’s return.
“Sorry, I just completely messed that up,” Dorries admitted, prompting more laughter from the Have I Got News For You crowd.

McGovern’s guest Professor Fry quipped: “At least she’s a better presenter than she is a politician.”
Several publications picked up on Dorries’ autocue blunder on Tuesday, with some viewers calling her presenting stint a “car crash”.
Before her TalkTV debut, she hinted she may have been slightly anxious as she tweeted: “Not remotely nervous. Nope.”
Dorries’ Uncensored gaffes didn’t stop there, as she was later corrected by the show’s guest for the evening Patrick Barwise.
“So, Richard, I have to ask you about Channel 4,” she began during a conversation about the TV licence fee.
Barwise unfortunately had to interrupt the presenter to remind her his name was Patrick, not Richard.
Despite Dorries being ridiculed for her presenting she still managed to pull in 26,000 viewers for TalkTV, an improvement over Uncensored’s average of 14,000-19,000 when Morgan is at the helm.
Have I Got News For You airs Fridays at 9pm on BBC One.
