This series of Strictly Come Dancing joined many other shows in celebrating 100 years of the BBC this weekend, with tributes to popular British icons like Doctor Who, Blue Peter and Casualty. Among cameos from many other celebrities associated with the broadcaster, fans have spotted a moving appearance of Sir Bruce Forsyth, who hosted the show for over a decade.
Strictly fans were incredibly moved on Saturday night after the BBC special paid tribute to former host Sir Bruce.
The long-standing television presenter hosted the series along with Tess Daly until announcing his retirement in 2014.
He returned for the show’s Christmas and Children in Need specials until 2015, before his death at the age of 89 in 2017.
New series have continued to pay their respects to Sir Bruce’s legacy, and Saturday night’s Centenary Special was no different.
In what co-host Claudia Winkleman referred to as Strictly’s “most ambitious opening routine ever”, a huge TV screen was hung above the show’s cast of professional dancers.
The footage played on the screen included many iconic BBC shows from the past century, including a clip of Sir Bruce with fellow presenter Sir Terry Wogan.
Fans were left feeling teary by the tribute, and many took to social media to share their thoughts.
Former Strictly pro [who tweeted this?] tweeted: “Great nod to the amazing Bruce Forsyth” after spotting the moment, and several fans have also shown their appreciation.
Roddy Graham said: “Lovely touch to have a scene with both Terry Wogan (host of the original Come Dancing) and Bruce Forsyth in the #BBC100 intro to #Strictly tonight.”
“What an opener!” @emsmusicalmind exclaimed. “Loved seeing @OwainWynEvans on the drums.
“Also the fact they showed Bruce Forsyth on the TV [tearful and love heart emojis]. #Strictly Happy 100th Birthday BBC.”
@LoraS81 wrote: “Not me bursting into tears at Tell & Bruce. Damn my kindle age hormones.”

And, in a perfect demonstration of Sir Bruce’s fame, writer James Moran said: “During #Strictly, they showed a brief clip of Bruce Forsyth.
“My kid, who was born AFTER Brucie sadly left us, immediately yelled out ‘it’s Brucie!’
“We’ve never shown her a clip or discussed him with her… I have NO idea how she knew who he was…”
This week’s episode featured some stunning routines from the 11 remaining celebrity contestants and their professional partners.
The judges were most impressed with Helen Skelton’s Blue Peter-themed Charleston and Hamza Yassin’s BBC Nature-inspired Quickstep, and other highlights included a Casualty Tango and Eurovision Jive.
Helen and Hamza are now at the top of the leaderboard heading into Sunday’s results, with Tony Adams firmly in the bottom place once again.
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs Sunday, October 23 at 6:45pm on BBC One.
