Strictly: Krishnan Guru-Murthy discusses his son

Broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy made an admission about his son very early into the first episode of Strictly Come Dancing 2023.

The 53-year-old was discussing being paired with Lauren Oakley, which he was delighted about, when Claudia Winkleman brought up his son.

“I’ve got to mention,” the host began, “your son, Jay, is absolutely appalled you’re taking part.”

She added: “He begged you not to…” as Krishnan laughed and nodded.

“Is there anything Lauren or any of us can do to make it fine?” Claudia asked.

“The aim is to get him here, he refused to come tonight,” the journalist admitted.

Kirshnan continued: “We have got to get him to a Strictly night. You know, he does ask how it’s going, he’s showing a vague interest, but he’s really embarrassed.

“I’ve been embarrassing him his whole life because I’ve been on telly…”

“Oh no, we’re taking it to a new level,” Claudia remarked.

She added: “And not only that, may I suggest we rent a mini bus and go and collect him, maybe from school?”

“Yeah,” Krishnan laughed before the presenter went on: “It’s happening, don’t worry!”

Krishnan has been paired with new dancer Lauren, who joined last year.

This is the first series she’s been given a partner, so while she’s nervous herself, she admitted Krishnan would be feeling it more.

Many viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their joy that Lauren will be gracing the dancefloor this year.

Ariadne quipped: “Lauren’s baptism by dad dancing fire is going to be glorious.”

Poppy wrote: “Lauren having a partner [heart emojis] I’m so so happy.”

And Georgia exclaimed: “The fact Lauren has got a partner this year [oh my God] that’s the [love of my life] THANK U STRICTLY.”
