Strictly Come Dancing fans have called for the show to be axed.

Some viewers have taken to social media to call for the BBC series to be axed after 20 years and branded it "boring".

The comments were made after this weekend's episode, which saw contestants transform into the characters from their favourite films.

One person moaned: "Strictly has been part of our lives for 20 odd years. Sorry to say but it’s losing me. Don’t know why. Not sure if it’s just tired. Something needs to happen? #StrictlyComeDancing."

Another person replied: "Ditto. Tired, stereotyped, repetitive and overhyped. Whatever magic it had has long since passed. #StrictlyComeDancing."

A third person wrote: "Just can't get into this series of #Strictly just seems really boring. #StrictlyComeDancing."

A fourth social media user wrote: "I'm putting this out there but this year #StrictlyComeDancing is just Meh & boring no one I'm rooting 4. Prefer #DancingWiththeStars.

"Seriously finding #StrictlyComeDancing incredibly boring this year and the scoring is ridiculous. #DWTS is far better," another person raged.

A fifth person added: "#StrictlyComeDancing – cut the boring films before the dances…WE DONT WANT THEM."

While some called for the end of the show, others applauded the dancing, band and incredible costumes seen in the episode.

Meanwhile host Claudia Winkleman, came under fire from some viewers for wearing a pair of eye-catching silver glittery trousers paired with a blazer.

Some claimed the pairing was “bizarre”, while others compared her to a “cotton bud".

One person wrote: "Not keen on Claudia’s trousers tonight #Strictly.

Another added: "@bbcstrictly I’d have thought twice about wearing that blazer with those trousers Claudia."

Some of the dances performed included Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe's Cha Cha Cha to The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) from Mermaids.

James Bye and Amy Dowden took to the dancefloor to perform the Cha Cha Cha to Hooked On A Feeling from Guardians of the Galaxy, while Tyler West and Dianne Buswell performed Charleston to Flash, Bang, Wollop! from Half a Sixpence.

Fans were left furious when Giovanni Pernice and Richie Anderson were the latest couple to be axed from the show after a tense dance-off against Fleur East and Vito Coppola.

Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse all chose to save Fleur and Vito, who had been early favourites to lift the glitterball.

Fans raged as Shirley opted to save Richie, with many urging for the show to replace her, with the decision proving to be very controversial.
