The upcoming Suits spin-off centred around Gina Torres’ character Jessica Pearson has finally landed an official title.
The USA series will be called Second City, with Torres unveiling the news at NBCU’s upfront in New York (via Deadline).
The new series will follow Jessica’s entry into the cutthroat world of Chicago politics as she decides to make a mid-life career change.
The series has been in development for a while now, using the recent Suits season seven finale as a backdoor pilot for the show.
“It was an extraordinary pleasure working with Gina on Suits for six years,” Suits creator Aaron Korsh recently said. “Beyond her undeniable talent, she is an incredible partner and collaborator, and I always hoped we would work together again.
“I am sincerely grateful to USA and UCP for giving [showrunner] Dan Arkin, my producing partners at Hypnotic and me the opportunity to continue Jessica Pearson’s journey in this new series that will encapsulate all that our fans love about her and Suits — but with its own distinct story that will be unique to the franchise.”
Meanwhile, on the Suits side of things, the show is heading into an eighth season with big changeups – notably the departures of Meghan Markle and Patrick J Adams.
However, Katherine Heigl is joining as new character Samantha Wheeler, who recently made her debut in a new trailer.
