Supertvet winces in pain as he dislocates his thumb during operation

Series 18 of The Supervet: Noel Fitzpatrick came to an emotional end on Thursday evening, with the Irish veterinarian even injuring himself during an operation on a gorgeous grey cat called Oz.

Oz had a nasty fracture and holding the plate and bone in alignment during the intricate operation required considerable force from Noel.

During the operation, Noel had to step away from the operating table and leave a nurse holding the cat’s leg as he had dislocated his thumb.

The nurse sympathetically told Noel: “Aw, it looks like you’re in pain.”

For a change, Noel was in need of medical attention and he continued walking around the theatre trying to smack his thumb back into place.

With a lot of force, Noel kept hitting his thumb joint to get the digit in the right place again.

He could be heard making noises while he seemed in distress before he eventually sorted the problem out.

“Oh I just popped it back in,” he exclaimed as he walked up and down the room wincing in pain.

The veterinarian admitted that this has only happened a few times in his lifetime and can be caused by holding something too tightly.

Taking to Twitter following the squeamish moment, viewer Jodi wrote: “Noel being bada** and putting his dislocated thumb back into place whilst he operating #Supervet @ProfNoelFitz.”

Another shared: “If you know how to do so, the quicker it’s back in place, the better #SuperVet.”

Chris added: “I did that when I fell upstairs and dislocated my little finger, then popped it back in place right after seeing it was at a wonky angle. Not something I’d want to repeat though.”

Luckily Oz the cat being operated on recovered thanks to the expertise of Noel and his team based at Fitzpatrick Referrals.

Oz’s escapades were halted after he fractured and dislocated his left hind leg.

Surgery elsewhere fail and amputation was on the cards before he was taken into Noel’s practice.

The Supervet: Noel Fitzpatrick episodes are available to stream on All4.
