Clarkson's harm

Jeremy Clarkson almost lost his thumb in accident – but not while farming

All that changed one night in 2019, when a boat drunkenly piloted by teenager Paul Murdaugh crashed, resulting in the death of another local teen, Mallory Beach. Immediately, rumours swirled that the Murdaughs – headed by lawyer dad Alex – were trying to cover up the events of the night, to save Paul. But the case took an unexpected and brutal turn two years later, when Paul and his mother Maggie were found murdered.

Featuring exclusive interviews with people who’d been on the boat the night of Mallory’s death, plus Paul’s long-time girlfriend, the series unravels a shocking and shadowy mystery.

We Have A GhostAvailable from Friday

A very modern take on the typical haunted house story, this fun flick centres on a family who discover that their new home is haunted by a ghost called Ernest (David Harbour, Stranger Things).

But instead of freaking out and getting out, dad Frank (Anthony Mackie) son Kevin (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) do that very 21st-century thing of creating a YouTube channel about it, which swiftly makes them – and Ernest – internationally internet famous.

Soon, however, Kevin’s attempts to help Ernest solve the mystery of his untimely death puts the family in unexpected danger. Featuring an uproarious cameo from Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus) as a typically over-the-top TV medium, it’s family-friendly, very funny and filled with spooky thrills.

The Reluctant TravellerAvailable from Friday

“I don’t look forward to travelling for a number of reasons,” says comedy legend Eugene Levy at the start of his hilarious new series. “When it’s too cold, I’m not comfortable. When it’s too warm, guess what? I’m not comfortable. But I’m 75 and maybe it’s time to expand my horizons.”

That’s exactly what the Schitt’s Creek star does over eight enlightening and eye-opening episodes, visiting far-flung locations including Finland, Tokyo, the Maldives, Costa Rica and South Africa.

And although he does get to stay at some of the world’s most incredible hotels, he also grudgingly immerses himself in the sights, sounds, smells and strange customs of the place he’s visiting, providing plenty of laughs along the way. If you’re a fan of Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father and James May’s various TV journeys, it’ll be right up your street.

LiaisonAvailable from Friday

Terrorism, computer hacking and undercover espionage collide in this nerve-shredding six-part thriller. When a series of sophisticated cyber-attacks bring London to its knees, the French government dispatch no-nonsense undercover operative Gabriel (Vincent Cassel) to the capital to extract the hackers – who are seeking asylum – and bring them back to Paris.

However, in London, Gabriel comes up against a formidable figure from his past, Alison (Eva Green), Private Secretary to the Minister for Security. Despite their stormy history, can they find a way to work together and save the UK from future catastrophe?

While it does sometimes take itself a little too seriously, with new episodes dropping weekly, Liaison is the kind of show that’ll make you wish the days away, just so you can find out what happens next. In both English and French, with subtitles.

Pretzel And The PuppiesAvailable from Friday

Hurrah! Pretzel – aka the world’s longest dachshund – his wife Greta and their brood of playful puppies are about to bound back on to our screens for a second series of breathless, cute and colourful adventures in their hometown of Muttgomery.

If you don’t know the background to Pretzel, the show is based on a much-loved picture book written way back in the 1940s by kids’ author Margret Rey, who also created the Curious George stories.

Although this animated TV adaptation is very much a modern retelling, which introduces children to some contemporary themes, it still manages to capture the playful spirit of the original story. Guaranteed to put a smile on the face of pre-schoolers everywhere.

ITVX

You & MeAvailable from Thursday

If you’re the kind of person who cries bucketloads over heartbreaking romantic dramas, be warned: You & Me is the sort of series that grabs hold of your heartstrings from the start and refuses to let go until you’re a great, big, tear-stained mess.

It follows young London journalist Ben (Harry Lawtey, Industry), whose happy and hopeful life takes a sudden and tragic turn, leaving him struggling to pick up the pieces.

We won’t give too much away about the plot, but the three-part series also stars Sophia Brown (The Witcher: Blood Origin) as Jess and Jessica Barden (The End Of The F***ing World) as Emma, two young women who come into Ben’s life at different times, changing him in different ways.

Produced by the one and only Russell T. Davies (It’s A Sin, Years And Years) and also starring ex-Corrie actress Julie Hesmondhalgh as Ben’s mum Linda, this is captivating, contemporary and very moving.

Dawson's Creek

Sadly, no, this isn’t a shock new series of the legendary 90s teen drama, in which we find out what Dawson (James Van Der Beek), Pacey (Joshua Jackson) and Joey (Katie Holmes) – RIP Jen (Michelle Williams) – are up to in 2023.

It’s actually all six seasons of the original show, available to stream on ITVX, which is almost as exciting. So whether you fancy a massive nostalgia fest, didn’t watch it the first time round, or maybe want to introduce the show to a new generation, now’s your chance to take a trip down memory lane, all the way to Capeside.

(K)nox: The Rob Knox StoryAvailable from Thursday

This award-winning documentary tells the shocking and tragic story of Rob Knox, the 18-year-old actor who was stabbed to death in 2008 just days after finishing filming the role of Marcus Belby in Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.

Featuring interviews with Rob’s family and friends, as well as fellow cast members like Ray Winstone, Tom Felton, Jim Broadbent and Blake Harrison, the film pays tribute to Rob’s short life but also follows the police investigation into his murder and addresses the continuing problem of knife crime in this country. Emotional and important.

LIONSGATE+

Party DownAvailable from Friday

Look who’s back! More than a decade after it was cancelled, the brilliant but short-lived US sitcom about a team of hapless party caterers has returned for a long-awaited third season.

Excitingly, the whole team – apart from Casey (who was played by Lizzy Caplan) – have returned, reuniting cynical Henry, optimistic but unlucky Ron, scathing, nerdy Roman, loveable doofus Kyle, naive Lydia and hilariously dippy Constance.

This time round, Jennifer Garner and James Marsden are among the guest stars and while the gang might be older, it’s clear from the opening episode that they’re definitely not wiser. All together now: “Are we having fun yet?”

DISNEY+

Fleishman Is In TroubleAvailable from Wednesday

Manhattan doctor Toby Fleishman (Jesse Eisenberg) is busily trying to rebuild his life after getting divorced from his high-flying wife Rachel (Claire Danes). Dividing his time between work, the world of dating apps and reconnecting with old friends Libby (Lizzy Caplan) and Seth (Adam Brody), he also looks after his and Rachel’s two kids every other weekend.

But all Toby’s exciting plans for this new life are suddenly put on hold when Rachel disappears without trace, leaving him with the kids. Can Toby discover what’s happened to her – and discover more about himself in the process?

Based on the novel of the same name, this eight-part series is darkly funny, insightful and painfully honest – it’s also unexpectedly warm-hearted and very watchable.

PRIME VIDEO

The ConsultantAvailable from Friday

Christoph Waltz is gloriously sinister in this blacker-than-black eight-part comedy horror thriller about a business consultant, Regus Patoff (Waltz), who’s called in to oversee the running of a tech company following the shocking death of the CEO.

And it doesn’t take long before the employees realise that there’s something really rather terrifying about Patoff and that their lives – as well as their jobs – could well be in danger. You’ll never look at your own boss in the same way once you’ve spent some time with The Consultant.
