The Crown series 3 reveals first look at Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip

The Crown season three has already revealed a first look at Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, and Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II – and now the Netflix show has given fans a glimpse of Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.

Netflix tweeted a first-look snap of Menzies, who plays Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones, alongside the caption: “Ambition.”

Colman and Bonham Carter take over the regal roles from Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby, respectively, for seasons three and four of the big-budget drama.

Menzies succeeds Matt Smith, while a strong cast of established stars and newcomers join them.

Ben Daniels stars as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins takes on the role of former Prime Minister Harold Wilson, with other cast newcomers including Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and Erin Doherty as Princess Anne.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Menzies addressed whether we’ll actually see Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones season eight.

“The honest answer is, I have no idea,” he told Digital Spy. “He’s obviously somewhere in a prison, he’s still around alive somewhere.

“They’re pretty stingy with their information and I’ve not heard anything from them.”

“I feel like they have so many stories to tie up, whether that’s a story they’ll want to go back to, I don’t know.”

The Crown season three arrives on Netflix in 2019. Seasons one and two are streaming now.
