WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Horror of Dolores Roach.
Shooting for The Horror of Dolores Roach mostly went to plan… but Justina Machado couldn’t bring herself to act out a scene that just didn’t sit right with her.
The Amazon Prime Video comedy-horror is based on the creepy podcast which later became an off-Broadway one-woman show, created by Aaron Mark.
The Horror of Dolores Roach is a modern-day telling of the classic Sweeney Todd tale with a twist.
Dolores (played by Justina Machado) is released from prison after a 16-year stint for dealing weed and discovers her neighbourhood, Washington Heights, has been transformed.
Everything except Empanada Loca, a shop run by her old friend Luis Batista (Alejandro Hernandez).
Eager to start earning money, she sets up a massage parlour in his shop’s basement but ends up killing his demanding landlord Gideon Pearlman (Marc Maron) on the table when he starts getting handsy.

Dolores confesses to Luis what happened and to get rid of the problem, he cuts up his body and serves the “meat” in his empanadas, much to her shock.
While speaking to Express.co.uk, Machado confessed it was actually when Gideon’s prosthetic body was brought on that she couldn’t cope with.
“We only worked with that kind of stuff a few times, that’s not the basis of the show”, she explained.
“But the times we did, it was super freaky.”

Machado continued: “There’s a scene in the bathroom where I’m looking at Marc Maron’s corpse and they wanted me to stare into his eyes.
“They wanted me to do a shot like that but it freaked me out so much I couldn’t do that shot.
“I was like ‘Oh I can’t do it, it’s so weird, it’s scary!’
“The prosthetic team was incredible, the stuff they did was insane.”
So far, it isn’t known for sure if there will be more episodes to come of The Horror of Dolores Roach.
However, the original podcast series is made up of two seasons, teasing the idea that there is still more to come.
And with creator Mark on board, it could very well mean subscribers will be seeing more from Dolores in the future.
The Horror of Dolores Roach is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
