two centuries 262 days since Killing Eve aired its brilliant final moments of Season 1, but our long national nightmare is finally over: BBC America has released the first footage of Season 2, and it offers all the blissfully violent absurdity you’re craving this Valentine’s Day.
In 60 seconds, there’s Eve (Sandra Oh) admitting to murder and crashing an engagement at the same, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) hunting through a stranger’s cutlery drawer, a nightmare-inducing pig-cum-dirndl disguise, and these mirroring scenes, a reminder that Eve and Villanelle are chained to an infinite loop of twisted obsession, one where stepping off—even letting down your guard—could have deadly consequences.
Oh, and Villanelle gets hit by a car.
The teaser offers little by way of plot for Season 2, but the cast and creators dropped a few hints at the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month, including the arrival of a new assassin (new head writer Emerald Fennell teased, “When somebody else comes along, do we find Eve is an assassin expert, or is she a Villanelle expert?”) and new European locations including Rome and Paris.
The new season also brings five new characters, played by actors British actors Nina Sosanya (Love Actually), Edward Bluemel (A Discovery of Witches), Shannon Tarbet (Colette), Henry Lloyd-Hughes (2014’s Madame Bovary), and Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh).
And as depicted in the trailer, the inimitable Fiona Shaw returns as MI6 operative Carolyn Martens, while Radio Times reports Kim Bodnia is back as Konstantin.
Killing Eve Season 2 premieres Sunday, April 7 on BBC America and AMC.
