FANS of new drama series ‘The Suspect’ are convinced they have already rumbled the identiy of the killer from its opening episode. 

The brand new drama has made its debut on ITV and has already set social media alight with wild fan theories.

The drama stars Aidan Turner (Poldark) as a clinical psychologist Joseph O’Loughlin who falls into a case revolving the death of a young woman named Catherine.

In the opening episode it is revealed that the deceased victim had 21 stab wounds which Joe suggests could be self-inflicted but he also has his concers regarding one of his other young patients Bobby, played by Bobby Schofield, who is obsessed with the number 21.

Although it appeared Joe himself was not so inncocent as he was seen shredding a file of a CV application Catherine had made in a bid to gain employment as a receptionist at the clinic where he worked as well as discovering she had made a sexual assault claim against him.

At the end of the tumutlous first episode, police asked Joe to provide fingerprints and DNA samples, presumably to eliminate him from any involvement.

Despite the different snippits of evidence presented throughtout the show, many viewers took to Twitter to explore different theories and offer up suggestions on who they believe is the perpetrator of the murder mystery. 

Many Twitter fans claimed Dr Gerald 'Jack' Owens (Adam James) could be the killer after he passed Bobby onto Joe at the clinic. 

One fan wrote: "The psychologist is the killer, because he thinks 'he can get away with it.”

Many were quick to agree, also alluding to the notion that Adam James has a history of playing the bad guy.

A fellow viewer agree writing: "Surely we already know the killer with #AdamJames in it”

A fourth said: "Adam James almost always plays a rotter."

Aidan’s character Joe is also suffering from early on-set Parkinson’s and he opened up on an encounter which helped him to embody the role.

Aidan said:” I met a musician called Drew Hallam who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's around five years ago when he was 35.

"We met a few times to talk about how he deals with the condition and copes with it. We also spoke about how it was for him in the early stages.

"Something struck me in one of the early conversations we had when he said how difficult it was when you're young with this condition. He said there are support groups, but Parkinson's doesn't generally affect younger people. Drew went to one of these support groups early on and he was the youngest person there."

The Suspect airs on ITV and ITV Hub.
