The Hargreeves family was thrown headfirst into yet another mind-boggling mystery at the end of The Umbrella Academy’s third season. While the popular Netflix drama will be coming to an end soon, the showrunner has assured fans there’s still plenty to look forward to in season four, even though it will look slightly different compared to previous outings.
Showrunner Steve Blackman has confirmed The Umbrella Academy’s fourth season will unfortunately consist of just four episodes.
This will make it the shortest instalment of the series yet, as the first three entries consisted of 10 episodes each.
The latest update was confirmed when Steve caught wind of a popular rumour on Twitter.
A concerned fan, @FIVES_KNIFE, wrote: “THERE IS NO WAY THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY SEASON FOUR HAS SIX EPISODES STOP LYING THAT ISN’T TRUE STOP.” (sic)
To which Steve replied: “It’s true. But you’re going to love them.”
The Umbrella Academy is hoped to return at some point next year and will pick up with the Hargreeves siblings powerless in another strange new universe.
Main heroes such as Viktor (played by Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper) and their patriarch/nemesis Sir Reginald (Colm Feore) will all return for one last adventure.
Upon hearing the latest news, several fans suggested the final six episodes could be longer to make up for the truncated season.
@ejdags replied to Steve: “It better be two hours per episode.”
“I heard a rumour that you made each episode at least two hours long with no plot holes and some form of closure for each sibling.
“Give them the happiness they deserve c’mon Steve,” @p_RIN_ess pleaded.
And @venetiancosmos demanded: “Those eps better be Stranger Things length. You hear me? I’m not taking ANYTHING under an hour.”

While others, still sore from the series’ cancellation, were fuming to hear the final season will also be The Umbrella Academy’s shortest.
@mxgnusbxne tweeted: “Just found out Umbrella Academy season four got cut down from 10 episodes to just six eps… No one speak to me.”
@bitchvodkas wrote: “Finding out The Umbrella Academy only has six episodes for its final season is literally ruining my entire week. I feel physically ill.”
And @Mzrc10 said: “Umbrella Academy’s next season is its last one and is only six episodes?!?!”
“Strange, my eyelid just started twitching. Must have some kind of trauma about a favorite show getting only six episodes for its final season or something.” (sic)
The cut is clearly a risky move, but hopefully the gamble pays off and Netflix is able to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the Hargreeves saga.
Steve has not yet confirmed whether or not the episodes will be any longer than usual.
However, in another recent tweet, he assured fans they would be “Six amazing episodes!”
The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix.
