After premiering on AMC in 2010 The Walking Dead has remained one of the network’s biggest hits with an army of fans also loyal to its various spin-offs. Before its premiere, season 11 was confirmed as the show’s final instalment and as the end draws closer each week, actress Eleanor Matsuura who played Yumiko shared her true feelings about the upcoming finale.

Season 11 is set out to be the biggest in Walking Dead history as it contains 24 episodes which will run over three parts.

With viewers eager to know how the show will close over ten years on screen, the showrunners and cast have remained tight-lipped.

Despite the secrecy, unexpected trouble is guaranteed to occur in the upcoming episodes as the series has introduced two new groups, the Commonwealth and the Reapers.

With viewers currently waiting for the first mid-season break to end, the cast members including Yumiko star disclosed how she felt about the end.

Speaking to the actress revealed the showrunner Angela Kang told her how the show is going to end.

Eleanor added: “I’m walking around, I’m like, ‘I know how it ends, I have all the information, it’s so fun that you get to revel in it,” she added, “so let’s have this, guys. I have no qualms with enjoying the fact I know the ending.”

Also being interviewed by the publication was Ezekiel star Khary Payton, who revealed he also knew how the show would end.

He shared: “I will tell you that they did tell me how this winds up and I am so excited for it.”

He continued: “I love that I have that. I love that I have this secret that I can’t tell.”

Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) was introduced to fans in season nine as one of the survivors rescued by Judith Grimes (Cailey Flemming) and brought to Alexandria Safe-Zone.

However as the series progressed, she left to reside in Hilltop Colony but due to it’s lack of leadership she became a member of its council.

Ezekiel (played by Payton) also arrived in season nine and is currently a member of the hilltop council.

As season 11 premiered, it was revealed Ezekiel had thyroid cancer, the same illness his grandmother suffered from.

During a conversation with Siddiq (Avi Nash), he disclosed he would have a higher survival rate if he was on medication but didn’t expect to find any during a zombie apocalypse.

However, it was made clear the Commonwealth was home to over 50,000 people and with ice cream vans and shopping malls, it was far more advanced than expected.

Although Ezekiel already accepted his illness and its steady decline, the Commonwealth could be the place for him to receive treatment.

In episode five, viewers watched as Yumiko finally reunited with her lost brother Tomi (Ian Anthony Dale).

His presence in Alexandria could also benefit Ezekial as Tomi was a thoracic surgeon before the apocalypse which means he would know how to remove the tumour.

However, the new arrival also made it clear he had no interest in resuming his medical practices.

Perhaps this is the way it will end for Ezekiel, the upcoming episodes could see him finally remove the tumour if he is able to convince Tomi.

The Walking Dead season 11, part 2 will premiere on AMC on February 20, 2022 in the USA. The UK release date is set for February 21, 2022 on Disney Plus.
