The Witcher: Season 3 official trailer #2
Warning: The following article contains spoilers for The Witcher season 3.
Henry Cavill’s final scenes as Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher have finally played out on screen after part two of season three concluded this week.
And it has left fans wondering how the beloved character will fare in the hands of the new Geralt of Rivia, Liam Hemsworth.
The Witcher’s showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, opened up about how Geralt will change following Henry’s exit, while speaking to Tudum.
She explained: “Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri (Freya Allan). To me, it’s the most heroic send-off that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that.”
It appears that Liam’s Geralt will be completely different to the one that fans know and love. Perhaps his actions will be driven by what matters most to him, instead of what is the most moral decision, as he attempts to have Ciri safely by his side.
In the final few shots of the season three finale, which mark Henry’s official exit, the camera lingered on the abandoned pin as Geralt crossed the border.
This seems to imply that fans won’t see the same Geralt the next time that he appears on scree, and the next time that the pin will be picked up, it will be by a different Geralt.
Lauren also outlined when speaking to Entertainment Weekly: “Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season four. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.”

However, it may be some time until season four is released. Despite being renewed at the end of 2022, it’s possible that the current Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes could significantly impact the wait between the third and fourth seasons.
If filming begins in 2024, as expected, it’s most likely that the fantasy drama won’t return until sometime in 2025. This additional time between the two seasons could give fans the time to get used to seeing Liam step into the role.
While Henry played the central protagonist since the series began airing in December of 2019, Liam is most known for his work in The Hunger Games franchise, where he played Gale Hawthorne. He has also appeared in Independence Day: Resurgence, Isn’t It Romantic and The Last Song, alongside ex-wife Miley Cyrus.
Seasons 1, 2 and 3, are now streaming on Netflix. Spin-off The Witcher: Blood Origin is also available to stream on Netflix.
