For £1.25 million you could become the owner of a five-bedroom period home – as well as two planes, a submarine, igloo and UFO spaceship.
Tony Rhys-Davies Jones, 50, is the current owner of Apple Camping – but visitors don’t sleep in tents.
They can pick between one of the many weird and wonderful accommodation options across the site – which includes jet planes, a speedboat, UFO spaceship, submarine and igloo.
But now, the campsite, near Redberth, Pembrokeshire, is up for sale, and it could be yours for a mere £1.25 million.
Toby started his business because he wanted to bring something different to the area.
He said: ‘I really wanted south Pembrokeshire to have something a little bit more alternative.’
He explains: I thought, “what is to stop us repurposing things like airplanes and things that people might want to stay in?” and that’s been the case ever since.’
But when someone else had already been granted a glamping license – Toby’s original plan – he had to think outside the box.
Toby’s been developing his business for over a decade.
He explains: ‘I took my mum shopping to Cotswold airport, as you do. We were shopping for a plane to recycle, and I came across the Jetstar, which is the 1970s private jet.’
‘The inspiration for the UFO came from my love of films, travel and retro.
‘But once I’d come up with idea, I needed to find someone to build it. A few people said there was a semi-retired boat builder called Steve Hicks in Tenby.
‘So, me and him went for a pint and I explained that I was thinking about building a UFO, and he could work on it from his work with fibre glass from his boat building experience – and it turns out he’d always wanted to build a UFO.’
Toby says he now wants to move on to new ventures elsewhere in Pembrokeshire – and is selling the whole site.
He said: ‘I’m outgrowing Apple Camping and it’s at a point where it’s ready for someone else, who may want to do weddings too because it’s a really adaptable site and can be taken to another level by another person.
‘While I was this creative to get it to where it is now, I think someone else could have real fun adding to it, the timing is perfect to let someone else keep expanding it.’
And the home Toby is leaving is beautiful too.
He says: ‘The house is a period farmhouse with massive inglenook fires, full of features, for the new owners it could potentially be a great family home, it’s huge with lovely big rooms, and it’s a good house to come home to and turn off.’
The site is up for sale for £1,250,000 with estate agents EA Fox Grant.
