WARNING: This article contains full spoilers for WandaVision episode seven.

The latest episode of Marvel’s Disney Plus show WandaVision confirmed fan theories that have been discussed since episode one: Agness (played by Kathryn Hahn) is actually Agatha Harkness, one of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful witches. Agatha was first introduced in a Fantastic Four comic book in 1970 and has since become a formidable foe to various superheroes.

Agatha introduced herself to Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) in episode seven by making her eyes glow and firing magic out of her fingers.

Wanda had just discovered Agatha’s hidden lair, which was complete with a spell book, cobblestone pillars and magical vines.

Agatha’s subterfuge allowed her to take control of Wanda, presumably to gain power over her abilities.

But Agatha may have a much bigger plan at the ready: Opening a portal to the underworld.

As a witch, Agatha has an undying bond with either the Devil, or an archdemon.

Considering Wanda has already created an entirely new reality in Westview using her powers, she may be the perfect instrument for Agatha to find a way to her master – Mephisto.

In Scarlet Witch’s seminal comic book story, House of M, she uses pieces of Mephisto’s soul to create her children, Timmy and Tommy, before they were eradicated from existence.

Mephisto also acted as a powerful trickster throughout the Marvel comic books, frequently locking horns with Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, Black Panther and Doctor Doom.

At the moment Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is the only MCU warrior equipped to take on such a powerful demonic entity.

If Agatha succeeded in opening a portal to hell Doctor Strange – otherwise known as the sorcerer supreme – would have to step in.

These events would likely lead to the beginning of the character’s next film, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

Details surrounding the film’s plot are still under wraps, but the title alone points at some universe-bending situations.

Using Wanda as a tool, Agatha and Mephisto could bring the fabric of time and space to its knees, but they would be no match for Strange.

The wizard already combatted Dormammu, an eldritch demon, in his first movie.

Strange even sacrificed himself countless times until the beast agreed to stay away from the reality humans reside in.

But, considering Strange would be battling against a fellow Avenger, he will need to find a way to solve the problem without hurting Scarlet Witch.

The latest episode of WandaVision also demonstrated Wanda’s powers altering the fabric of Monica Rambeau’s (Teyonah Parris) DNA.

Rambeau showed off some brief flickers of power in the episode when she was attacked.

These powers will eventually lead to her becoming the superhero she is known as in the comic books: Photon.

Wanda granting powers is the opposite of what happens in her House of M storyline, where she removes all trace of the mutant gene throughout the Marvel universe.

Considering there are no mutants currently in the MCU, she may instead create the mutants, just like she did with Monica.

The mutants’ arrival follows Disney’s purchase of Fox, who previously owned the cinematic rights to the X-Men, Marvel’s flagship mutant squad.

WandaVision continues Friday on Disney Plus.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is due for release on March 24, 2022.
