Everyone deserves love, no matter their age.
That’s the message of the charming new reality show Date My Grandma, which premiered on Valentine’s Day on AARP’s YouTube Channel.
The six-episode series portrays grandchildren interviewing potential mates for their grandparents, putting the suitors to the test by asking them a series of questions like “Do you exercise?” and “Have you saved up for retirement?” (Some even make them show off their dancing skills.)
“Like all of our AARP Studios programs, we want to celebrate the lives of the 50-plus,” said AARP Studios VP Jeffrey Eagle in a statement. “In Date My Grandma we get to tell family stories, romantic stories, funny stories, real stories all in one series that also involve multiple generations. It’s about time a reality series connected these generational dots and simply shared the love.”
The series also aims to show how meeting new people and staying connected are fundamental to one’s physical and mental well-being.
A recent AARP study showed that 56 percent of single grandparents were dating or open to the idea of it. And it wasn’t just about finding a new wife or husband: 36 percent of respondents said they were just looking for companionship.
New episodes of Date My Grandma are available every Thursday.
