Waterloo Road shares teaser clip of new series launch date

TV drama Waterloo Road has posted a teaser on social media today to give the biggest hint yet of when we can expect the brand new series to appear on our screens.

The BBC series, which stars Kym Marsh and Angela Griffin, shared a clip to its official Instagram account featuring the iconic Waterloo Road theme tune over a blurry video of pupils going into the school.

Some of the figures can be seen wearing the old Waterloo Road uniform of maroon tops and it's overlaid with a new Waterloo Road graphic.

The caption reads: "A brand new logo for a brand new #WaterlooRoad. Coming to @BBC One and @BBCiPlayer in early 2023".

The post has already had thousands of likes with Waterloo Road actress Angela Griffin post a series of clapping emojis underneath.

Kym plays dinner lady Nicky Walters in the series, whose children Preston and Tonya are also pupils at the school.

News of a new series of Waterloo Road was announced earlier this year along with who would be joining the cast. Angela Griffin will reprise her role as Kim Campbell and said: "I feel really honoured to be joining the new series of Waterloo Road.

"It is exciting to be stepping back into Kim’s shoes and I can’t wait to explore her life, character and how she has evolved since we last met her. The writers have some amazing storylines planned and I’m looking forward to welcoming viewers back to Waterloo Road."

Other returnees include Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths, who played Donte Charles and Chlo Grainger back in 2006. Donte and Chlo are now married returning to the school as staff.

Adam, who also played Adam Barton in Emmerdale, told Metro: "Waterloo Road was a huge part of my life and career so to go back 15 years later is a dream come true."

Kym is currently a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing and this weekend she took her dance partner Graziano Di Prima to visit her Waterloo Road workplace and show off some moves for the cast.

Kym found herself in the dance off against Matt Goss on Sunday night's Strictly but was saved to dance another week after the judges chose her to stay in and sent Matt home.

Craig Revel Horwood commented: “I think both couples went up a major notch – I mean, Matt, you went fantastically mad in that, I loved it, and Kym, you were really great in that. But the couple I would like to save is Kym and Graziano.”

And Anton Du Beke said: “I would just like to say you should both be thrilled with the way you performed in the dance-off, it’s the most high-pressured of situations.

“Matt – that’s your best performance of the whole series, you should be really proud of yourself. But the couple with the higher technical ability, I think for me, going through is Kym and Graziano."
