Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales has been airing on More4 and the four-part season follows the presenter on his parents’ farm. The heartwarming series touches on an emotional period of his life when he moved his family to Durham to help his parents run the family farm. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about where the farmhouse is and whether you can stay there.
Where is Matt Baker’s farmhouse?
In this intimate series, Baker returns to his childhood home of Durham to help mother Janice and father Mike.
The BBC star moved from Hertfordshire to the Dales to help out with the smooth running of the farm and make some much-needed changes.
The 100-acre farm is in the Durham Hills and Baker said it had been an emotional journey returning to support his family.
His mother had been involved in a farming accident which left her injured and she was unable to carry out her usual duties.
In the upcoming episode, he will be helping out by planting the apple orchard his parents have always dreamt of.
His other duties include picking up a flock of ewes and organising an enchanting woodland cookout.
He also has hopes of increasing biodiversity in the woodland, and Farrier John pays the donkeys a visit.
The star left the BBC’s The One Show after receiving the news that his mother had been in an accident and needed knee surgery.
He wrote an article for inews about the ordeal, saying: “It was one of those scenarios when you automatically go into rescue mode, so we downed tools, went up there and from day one, it was all hands on deck.
“We live a life that’s up and down the whole time anyway – I am a northerner through and through and the Durham Dales, where I grew up, are like a magnet; I can’t stay away.”
Can you stay at Matt Baker’s farm?
The farm is privately owned by the family and it seems it is not open to members of the public.
Baker and his crew were also unable to stay at the farm during the coronavirus pandemic, due to lockdown restrictions.
He had to hire a local bed and breakfast for his family and the crew to stay in while they filmed the series.
He said he had never considered putting his family in the spotlight before as he wanted to be the one overseeing the whole process.
The presenter said he wanted to make sure his loved ones were happy with what was being shown to the public.
