Zoe Collins (played by Laura Haddock) abandoned her dull life in Manchester to investigate the strange murder of her brother, Axel (Tom Rhys Harries) at the beginning of the Netflix series. Now her life has become tangled in Ibiza’s underworld of drugs and parties, White Lines fans are wondering what’s next for the latest streaming phenomenon from the creator of Money Heist.

The new crime thriller from the mind of Money Heist’s creator Álex Pina divided some audiences but quickly reached the top of Netflix’s list of popular new shows.
As the coronavirus pandemic keeps television production on hold, fans are unsure whether a second season is definitely on the way.
However, after drawing millions of viewers from worldwide, Netflix subscribers are hopeful the Spanish-English co-production will eventually continue.
When streamers last left the series, Zoe had discovered Axel’s friend Marcus (Danny Mays) had a major role to play in his death.

Marcus then strikes a deal with the Calafats, one of the major crime families on the Spanish island of Ibiza, raising the stakes for season two.
After his work on the equally successful crime drama Money Heist, Netflix subscribers were eager to see what was next for Álex Pina.
The writer and producer’s first major foray into English-language drama didn’t disappoint, and the Ibiza-set mystery stayed true to Álex’s Spanish roots.
Featuring a cast of popular English and Spanish speaking stars, White Lines’ British lead Zoe Haddock revealed she sometimes struggled with keeping up with her international co-stars.
She said: “I just fell in love with all of them. The Spanish actors are really, really highly regarded in Spain, not necessarily people we’ve heard of here but you are standing there opposite someone at the absolute top of their game. It was such a privilege to work with them.”
Despite making new friends in the show’s sun-drenched filming locations of Ibiza and Mallorca, Zoe’s limited Spanish vocabulary often proved challenging behind-the-scenes.
Zoe continued: “If we’re lucky enough to go again, I’ve already started trying to improve my Spanish so I can communicate with Alex without having to go through a translator or using my phone to do Google Translate, which never gets it right!”
The star continued by revealing the language barrier was a particular issue when trying to communicate with her Spanish co-lead, Marta Milans, who played Kika Calafat.

She added: “I became great friends with Marta and she would read her scripts in Spanish and I’d read mine in English.
“She would say things like, ‘Oh, the translation here is not quite right’, and she’d explain it to me and it would be so beautiful and lyrical in Spanish.
“Or maybe we don’t even have the words in English to translate it exactly, but she’d help me to understand it.”
Zoe finishes the season remaining in Ibiza, so White Lines’ intrepid protagonist could start season two having picked up some of the local tongue to aid her continuing investigations.
- White Lines: How was Netflix series White Lines inspired by real life?
Whether or not Laura Haddock’s new Spanish skills will be utilised by her character in a potential second season, her practice is sure to make production run much smoother when the cast can finally return to the idyllic Spanish beaches.
Three weeks after the new series first became available, Netflix have yet to confirm White Lines’ renewal for season two.
However, despite mixed reviews from critics the series performed incredibly well during the lockdown and all signs point to the story eventually continuing.
White Lines season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
