Who is Mark Hanretty?

Mark is a 33-year-old professional skater and ice dancer from Glasgow.

The Scottish athlete previously represented the United Kingdom internationally.

Together with his partner Christina Chitwood, they won two bronze medals; one in 2008 and the other in 2010.

They also competed at the 2009 European Championships and placed 18th.

Mark is married to skating coach Kathy, with whom he has two children named Lukasz and Liola.

Has he appeared on Dancing On Ice before?

Mark has appeared in Dancing on Ice's previous series which were aired in 2011, 2012 and 2o13.

In 2011, he was partnered with  Loose Women host Nadia Sawalha who was eliminated in the first week.

The following year, the professional was paired with Rosemary Conley who was the sixth celebrity to be booted off.

In 2013, Mark had a go at the competition with labour politician Oona King but ended up suffering from a devastating accident.

Viewers at home watched in horror as he dislocated his shoulder ahead of his survival skate with Oona.

Backstage he had his arm popped back in to place and went on to complete the routine – but the couple was still booted off the show.

His return to the show wasn't until 2017, when he partnered up with Donna Air which saw them staying on the show until the 7th week.

Mark will be dancing with Saira Khan this year.

Saira is well knowns a member of the Loose Women panel and she has also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.

Dancing On Ice 2019 returns to ITV tonight, January 6, at 6pm, airing until 8pm.

Phillip Schofield will be back to present the hit show once more alongside Holly Willoughby, who revealed the news of the show's return live on This Morning in late January.

Skating icons and current judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will return as judges, alongside Jason Gardiner and Ashley Banjo.

The series is set to reunite Jason and Karen Barber seven years after their heated on-air row after former Olympic skater Karen has landed the role of head coach.

"Having been involved with the show since its very first series, it holds a lot of special memories to me and I'm looking forward to working with this year's celebrities as we start transforming them into skating stars," she said.
