The third season of Paramount’s popular Western drama Yellowstone concluded with a devastating hit on John Dutton and his family. Before the series returns to screens next year, actor Wes Bentley has the scoop on where the latest developments leave Jamie Dutton at the beginning of season four.

Season three of Taylor Sheridan’s hit Western series Yellowstone concluded with the most successful attack on the Duttons’ way of life yet.

John’s (played by Kevin Costner) valuable ranch was left free for the taking when a mysterious assassin left him bleeding on the side of the road.

Meanwhile, his children Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) could be dead as they also became the targets of a mass hit on Dutton Ranch.

With the family left clinging to life at the end of the season finale, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) is facing challenges of his own.

Throughout season three, Jamie had to come to terms with the fact he’s not a Dutton at all, and was actually adopted by John as a child.

As he continued to grow distant from his adoptive family in the latest instalment, Jamie also confronted his real father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton) for the first time.

After discovering Garrett had killed his biological mother, Jamie is feeling more lost than ever and will continue struggling to find his place in the world in Yellowstone season four.

Some recent comments from Yellowstone star Wes Bentley have confirmed a tough journey ahead for the misguided Jamie.

Following yet another surprising reveal about Jamie and Beth’s rocky relationship, Bentley has confirmed the siblings won’t be in a good place at the start of season four.

Of course, it’s all dependent on whether Beth actually survived the explosive package delivered to her office in the season finale.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bentley touched on the shocking flashback which revealed Jamie forced Beth to get an abortion as a teenager.

His actions have caused a rift between the pair ever since, and could still have dire consequences throughout the next season.

Bentley explained: “It’s broken. There was always hope that they loved each other more than they hated each other.”

Their relationship has had its highs and lows over the course of Yellowstone’s previous three seasons, and Jamie and Beth have usually looked past their differences.

Unfortunately, Bentley revealed Jamie’s discoveries in season three could cause him to go against the family, and Beth in particular.

He continued: “But I think Jamie, coming with the realization that he isn’t even a Dutton, is realizing what he did cannot get fixed, or maybe he doesn’t have the ability to fix it.”

“He’s trying to be strong there and stand up and say, ‘All right, it’s broken. You’re right. I’m not even one of you. But I still got to do something.’

“But you know Jamie, he doesn’t make the best decisions. He makes a choice, I’ll put it that way.”

Headstrong Jamie will almost certainly try to break free and make it on his own in season four now he knows for sure he doesn’t belong on Dutton Ranch.

However, as ever on Yellowstone, his decisions may not go according to plan and could cause irreparable damage to his relationship with his sister.

Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount.
