Yellowstone: Season 5 of US drama teased in new trailer

Yellowstone season five returned with the episode Tall Drink of Water and it started with a flashback of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). Meanwhile, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) was confronted by Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) over suing the state. As the new season progresses, fans are wondering what happened to the activist Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo).

Yellowstone’s latest episode saw Rip wake up to an empty bed as Beth (Kelly Reilly) headed to Salt Lake to settle some unfinished business.

She was later arrested for battery after bottling a woman who had been flirting with her husband at a bar.

Elsewhere, Lloyd (Forrie J Smith) was celebrating his birthday and Rip was interrogated about the missing wolves.

Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Kayce (Luke Grimes) were still mourning the death of their unborn baby.

Kayce told Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) that he had chosen to give up his role as livestock commissioner so he could protect his family.

He asked Thomas if he could have a new job as he feared having such huge responsibility put his family at risk.

The series is yet to re-introduce Summer Higgins, the environmental activist who became John Dutton’s new love interest.

John had already bailed her out of jail once, but she was put back behind bars after Beth set her up.

She was given a lengthy sentence as the judge failed to look past her previous crimes, but John vowed to look after her.

He said although it would be a long fight, he would get her out of prison one way or another.

In episode three, Beth told her father: “Find someone you can love while you are still young enough to do it.”

This led some viewers to believe Summer would make an appearance as she and John started to develop feelings for one another.

However, her return never came and fans took to Reddit to discuss her absence.

Different_Rock3248 asked: “So Summer Higgins… nuthin’? No mention of her demise?”[Sic]

89Rae suggested she could have another run-in with Beth, saying: “Maybe she and Beth cross paths in jail?”

Tigers101212 agreed, adding: “Yeah, this seems very likely.”

RecklesslyPessmystic asked: “Is that the jailed activist that John was f*****g?

“She was mentioned in the ‘previously on…’ segment at the start of the season, so I assume John will issue her a pardon eventually.

“They don’t mention things in the ‘previously on…’ if they have no relevance.”

Wootcanal said: “There was an interview with Jen Landon and Wendy where Wendy mentioned Summer and there being ‘triangles’.

“Maybe that’ll be in the second half of the season.”

Thenaturalwitch explained how the judge conceded to reduce her sentence and it was said it would be reduced to about eight months, so she may make an appearance soon.

Summer actress Piper Perabo explained she would make an appearance in the upcoming season and her relationship with John will escalate.

She said at the PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly Red Carpet Live: “The love story is kicking into gear on Yellowstone.

“I know a lot of people watch it for the cowboys and the ranch, but I watch it for the love story.

“We’re turning up the heat. It’s been a hard couple of years, let’s turn up the heat for a minute.”

Yellowstone airs on Sundays on The Paramount Network and Mondays on Paramount Plus.
