Coronation star Alison King recently got engaged to partner David Stuckley while on holiday in Portugal.
The actress, 46, said that she had an inkling that David mat decide to get down on one knee as he kept requesting to put things on her finger, revealed the couple in an exclusive chat with OK! magazine.
“It was just a few days after our one-year anniversary. I had an inkling he was going to pop the question because he kept putting something on my finger and going: ‘Right, close your eyes and forget this ever happened,” revealed the Corrie veteran.
“We’d also discussed marriage, too. I think we both went from: ‘No, we don’t ever need to get married,’ to: ‘Oh, we really want to get married!”
While to many a proposal abroad this seems like a romantic backdrop for an engagement, there was a moment where David was concerned that is wouldn’t go to plan due to some stormy weather.
Ali explained: “We went to Portugal with friends and David had booked us a sunset cruise on our own.
“I’d bought him a Rolex as an engagement present too, and I took it along just in case he asked as I had an inkling he would!
"But as we drove towards the port at Albufeira, there were black clouds over the sea. The taxi driver was like: ‘You’re going on a boat? You’re kidding right?’
David added: “The crew were all in on the surprise, so they said: ‘We’re not going to cancel don’t worry!’ We got out of the marina and the waves were huge!
“I wouldn’t have dared to hold the ring in case it flew out of my hands. So I asked them to turn us around and they took us into the marina to where there were no people around."
David revealed that he was really nervous and “stumbling over” his words when he decided to pop the question.
“Once the crew had turned off the engine and gone downstairs, I got really nervous and started stumbling over my words,” he revealed.
He continued: “I thought, I’ve got to ask her now, so it was then that I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. I got emotional! I didn’t know what she was going to say.”
Ali added: “I said: ‘Yes please’ and then I gave him the watch! It was perfect, even though it didn’t go to plan!”
David concluded: “We just sat on the boat and drank champagne afterwards!”
Alison and David met through their mutual personal trainer in 2018 who set them up on a date, which the Corrie star brought a board game to.
Ali said: “We met in March 2018. My personal trainer Gareth was also training David and our sessions overlapped. I walked in and thought, ‘Ooh he looks nice.’
“Then Gareth got to know David and realised he was single. He said he thought we’d make a really good couple so he arranged to get us together.
“He didn’t tell David who the date was with until the last minute but we went for a drink at the Church Inn in Mobberley and I brought a set of draughts!” David said that it was “pretty much” a blind ate for him.
“Gareth mentioned Ali was in Corrie but I didn’t recognise her from that as I didn’t use to watch it. “I did remember Ali from the old Daz adverts, though! I was nervously sitting there as she was 20 minutes late.
"But within minutes of her arriving it was just dead easy and chilled. She had her draughts under her arm and we watched the Grand National!”
“I love boardgames so I thought I’d bring one along! He kept saying, ‘I’ll put on a bet for us.’ We just got on from there,” she revealed. “The rest is history,” David concluded.
The pair recently moved in together with Ali’s daughter Daisy, who she had with ex-partner and Corrie actor Philip Middlemiss, and said that it has been ‘really easy’ so far.
“We recently moved in together fully, and it’s really easy with the three of us,” said Alison. “We do different jobs. He’s very good at doing all the washing and then I tend to put it away!”
