Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez vented her frustrations about the House coronavirus relief bill on Instagram, calling out her GOP colleagues for kowtowing to President Trump.
The post, featuring boyfriend Riley Roberts with French bulldog Deco, came early Saturday, shortly after the measure passed.
“Every time we struck a deal with the White House, Trump backed out last minute,” the Democratic firebrand wrote. “So we’ve been basically waiting almost two full days for Trump to tweet something nice about the relief bill because House Republicans won’t do anything without a permission slip from him first, and frankly many don’t think for themselves.”
“Wish our government didn’t work this way but here we are!” AOC added. “Elections have consequences! Please do not stay home from elections and DEFINITELY don’t vote GOP this year.”
The permission slip from Trump did, in fact, come Friday evening in a tweet.
“I fully support H.R. 6201: Families First CoronaVirus Response Act, which will be voted on in the House this evening. This Bill will follow my direction for free CoronaVirus tests, and paid sick leave for our impacted American workers,” he said shortly before the House moved forward. The measure passed 363-40.
The bill includes free coronavirus testing for all Americans, including the uninsured; paid sick and family leave; food aid; and unemployment benefits.
