Pint and a Sunday roast…in a can! Aunt Bessie’s launch roast dinner flavoured BEER alongside its jam roly poly and custard pale ales – so would YOU try it?
- Latest line includes three new flavours following on from previous collaboration
- The new drinks are already so popular that they are listed as sold out online
Fans of traditional British flavours such as a roast dinner and apple crumble will now be able to have them in liquid form with an added twist.
Known for its delicious array of frozen treats, Aunt Bessie’s has teamed up with Northern Monk for a second time to create a line of unique ales and porters inspired by some British classics.
The new line includes an Apple Crumble and Custard Pale Ale, a Roast Dinner Brown Ale, and a Sticky Toffee Pudding and Custard Porter.
All are available at Morrisons stores from £2.50 each. Individual beers are 330ml and contain 4.5 per cent alcohol.
So popular is the new line that it is already sold out on Northern Monk’s website.
The Aunt Bessie’s Northern Monk Jam Roly Poly and Custard Pale Ale was previously launched in a collaboration by the two companies, based largely in Leeds, some years ago

According to The Drinks Business, the Roast Dinner Brown Ale has been brewed with Aunt Bessie’s Roast Potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings, while the Jam Roly Poly and Custard Pale Ale is reportedly brewed with plum, apricot and strawberry.
The ingredients are the same that go into the original Aunt Bessie’s pudding recipe.
Both companies based much of their operations in Leeds, and began working together in 2020 when the brewery released the Roast Dinner Brown Ale and the Jam Roly Poly addition.
The much anticipated drinks were billed as the UK’s first two-course meal in beer form at the time.
The brewery describes the canned roast dinner as a ‘rich, hearty and satisfying beer’, and recommend having the brown ale as a main course followed by one of the dessert flavours.
‘Jam Roly Poly Pale Ale has that jammy, sweet flavour with creamy vanilla; maybe Apple Crumble Pale Ale is your thing, with subtle notes of cinnamon, or Sticky Toffee Pudding Porter, for a caramel-y sticky sweet treat’, the brewery said.

The previously launched items in collaboration by the two companies was said to include actual Aunt Bessie’s products
‘All served with custard, of course.’
The latest line has divided beer lovers online, with one customer writing: ‘We’ve hit peak craft beer nonsense’.
Another wrote: ‘It’s the cat food packaging for me’, while someone else said they liked them but the ‘Sunday Dinner one can get in the bin unfortunately’.
It’s not the first time large brands have delved into the alcohol business. In 2020, baking company Warburtons released a toasted crumpet flavour IPA in collaboration with sustainable brand Toast Ale.
The 4.2 per cent ABV was made with leftover stale crumpets.
Kellog’s also used the older products, in their case rejected Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies and Coco Pops breakfast cereals, to create beers with UK brewery Seven Bro7hers.
Sling It Out Stout used 80kg of Kellogg’s Coco Pops to replace malted barley, while Cast Off Pale Ale featured 80kg of Rice Krispies. The Throw Away IPA used Corn Flakes in a similar way.
