Awkward moment Paralympian Lauren Steadman tells Sunday Lunch host Tim Lovejoy ‘I’ve only got one hand’ when he forgot about her disability in on air gaffe about wrapping groceries

This is the awkward moment Sunday Lunch host Tim Lovejoy forgot about Paralympian Lauren Steadman’s disability when he asked her whether she wrapped up her groceries in a paper bag by swinging it around both hands.

He asked her: ‘Did you get the brown paper bags and do that? Was it on a market?,’ while motioning with both hands how he would wrap a paper bag.

Lauren Steadman quickly replied: ‘I’ve only got one hand.’ The host then said ‘oh’ and laughed awkwardly.

Ms Steadman and the other guests started laughing hysterically, while Mr Lovejoy held his head in disbelief. 

His co-host Miquita Oliver then asked if they should move on to another question, but instead Mr Lovejoy said to Ms Steadman: ‘I’m so sorry Lauren. I’m so sorry. I’m so embarrassed.’

Tim Lovejoy asked Lauren Steadman (pictured): ‘Did you get the brown paper bags and do that? Was it on a market?,’ while motioning with both hands how he would wrap a paper bag. Ms Steadman quickly replied: ‘I’ve only got one hand’ 

Mr Lovejoy held his head in disbelief while his co-host looked at him with an awkward smirk on her face

He repeatedly apologised, but Ms Steadman waved him off laughing.

The Paralympian from Peterborough also participated in Strictly Come Dancing, where she was the first disabled female contestant, and Celebrity SAS.

Viewers found the host’s blunder hilarious and shared their amusement on social media. One user commented: ‘Don’t be embarrassed [about] your comment @timlovejoy #sundaybrunch.

‘I think it showed that you see @LaurenSteadman as so much more than her disability. She’s a wonderful person and took it in very good spirit. V funny though!’

The same user had said earlier: ‘Crying helplessly with laughter @SundayBrunchC4 with @LaurenSteadman having to point out to @TimLovejoy that she couldn’t do the grocery wrapping action he was showing as she had only one hand.

The rest of the guests and Ms Steadman started laughing hysterically. Mr Lovejoy repeatedly apologised, but Ms Steadman waved him off laughing.

A third joked: @TimLovejoy is going to be one of the most popular memes of the year.’

A fourth said: ‘@SundayBrunchC4 today’s show was so funny, live TV at its very best, please don’t be mortified @ TimLovejoy you are a legend.’

But one user said: ‘Pity about Tim Lovejoy. His earlier faux pas was cringeworthy.’ 

Another replied to him saying: ‘I know. At least he had the decency to be genuinely embarrassed.’ 

While most shared their amusement, some users thought the blunder was ‘cringeworthy’ and ’embarrassing’
