Barmy Brit danger tourist touches down in Africa ahead of bid to rescue refugee

A barmy Brit danger tourist who visits war zones and dangerous countries for fun has landed in Africa ahead of an attempt to help a refugee who escaped an ethnic conflict reunite with his brother.

‘Lord’ Miles Routledge, who has built a name for himself touring areas of conflict and violence, landed in Nairobi, Kenya, yesterday, September 20.

The 22-year-old said he was on the way to help a young man reunite with his brother in Uganda, after they both escaped turmoil in South Sudan.

The United Nations said earlier this month that some 173 civilians have been killed and 37 abducted in four months of fighting in South Sudan between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and Vice President Riek Machar.

There is also ethnic violence, with dozens dying in recent weeks.

Even still, the young Birmingham native is undeterred. He told the Daily Star: "I have a plan to get a 18-year-old kid a passport so he can attend university and reunite with his brother in Uganda.

"He's stuck in the refugee camp until he can get a passport but is scared to go back into South Sudan because of the ethnic war, hence why he fled with his family."

Miles uploaded pictures to Twitter showing the Kenyan stamp on his passport, as well as his humble £8 a night hotel room in the capital, Nairobi.

He wrote: "Landed in Nairobi, Kenya, got the finest $9/night hotel, flying to the refugee camp in 2 nights and then crossing into South Sudan."

He told the Star that he planned on driving to Kakuma Refugee Camp, located in the North-western region of Kenya.

The camp was established in 1992 following the arrival of the “Lost Boys of Sudan”.

The Lost Boys of Sudan refers to a group of over 20,000 boys of the Nuer and Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced or orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War.
