Boris Johnson takes aim at Sadiq Khan’s ‘odious and unjustified’ ULEZ and calls it a tax on driving in his latest Daily Mail column
- Boris Johnson’s new column will be on MailOnline later today
Before he ran the country, Boris Johnson ran London – so the state of the capital is an issue close to his heart.
And the former PM uses his Mail column this week to deliver a stinging verdict on Labour mayor Sadiq Khan’s controversial expansion of ULEZ.
Giving a sneak video preview in his inimitable style ahead of the full article landing at 5pm, Mr Johnson brands the massive scaling up of the £12.50-a-day charge an ‘odious, unjustified tax on driving’.
He storms that the policy – which could be decisive in the crucial by-election for his old Uxbridge & South Ruislip constituency – has ‘nothing to do with air quality’, but is down to Mr Khan’s ‘bankrupt finances’.

Mr Johnson, speaking in the back of a car, also has a bit of fun at his own expense by noting that he is wearing a seatbelt… something that landed him in trouble previously.
You can watch the trailer, and read the column now on our subscription sister site Mail+ and later on MailOnline.
Mr Johnson’s full-page column will also appear in the Daily Mail every Saturday – along with fellow star names Amanda Platell and Andrew Neil.
Whether you’re a Boris Johnson fan or not, one thing is for sure: it’s required reading.
