Horror as six-year-old boy and teenage girl are among three dead after two cars smashed into double-decker bus

A six-year-old boy, a teenage girl and a woman in her 30s have been killed in a horror crash after two cars smashed into a double-decker bus.
The silver Vauxhall Meriva and blue Toyota Aygo collided with the bus, which was travelling in the opposite direction, on the A61 between South Stainley and Ripley in North Yorkshire.
The two children and woman in the Vauxhall died following the collision yesterday afternoon at about 2.20pm on the rural road, which was then shut for nine hours.

The bus driver was taken to hospital with leg injuries, while an unknown number of bus passengers also suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
Police said the next of kin of the three victims in the Vauxhall were informed and have been receiving ‘specialist support’. The two people in the Toyota were not injured.
Officers at North Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses, urging anyone who saw the crash or any of the vehicles prior to the collision to get in touch.

They are also asking anyone who has dashcam footage of any of the vehicles travelling along the A61 before the collision, or of the crash itself, to contact them.
The road was closed to allow all emergency services to attend the collision and for investigators to examine the scene. It reopened at about 11.30pm last night.
