Christmas spirit seemed to have no limits this morning as swimmers across the country headed to the coast for a festive dip.
Braving the cold, participants donned festive bikinis, elf costumes and Father Christmas hats to submerge themselves in the chilly water at King Edward’s Bay in Tynemouth, North East England.
Swimmers also took the plunge at the Serpentine in Hyde Park and Boscombe beach in Dorset, similarly decked out in festive swimwear.
Temperatures dipped to nine degrees celcius but the crowds remained enthusiastic, running across the beach and splashing in the icy waters.

The participants boldly faced the cold weather with one daring swimmer even wearing a bikini as she splashed in the cold water
The sun had barely risen as the festive crowd, filled with people of all ages, dashed across the beach and headed straight for the cold water
One sensible swimmer wore a wetsuit for the event while others bravely donned swimming trunks and bikinis to face the cold waters
Christmas spirit was in abundance as the group donned festive green and red elf suits, Christmas hats, penguin t-shirts and tutus
The swimmers stayed enthusiastic as they plunged into the water in Tynemouth, raising their hands and splashing water
One participant at King Edward’s Bay smiled and took a selfie as she stood in the water wearing a festive red bikini with a matching Father Christmas hat
Revellers were just as enthusiastic at Boscombe beach in Dorset, bravely splashing in the water in their swimming costumes and Christmas hats
