Cops from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the crash which happened in Mitcham at around 11:30 am.
The pedestrian is thought to be in his 60s and was treated by paramedics from London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
But he tragically died at the scene on Western Road.
Metropolitan Police said his family are in the process of being informed.
The police Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified as well as the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Several roads in the area are closed as an investigation gets underway.
Met Police said on Twitter: “Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are dealing with a fatal police collision in Mitcham.
“A number of road closures are in place.”
