The incident leading up to his arrest is said to have occurred on August 18 at a property in Extremadura Insurgentes, a neighbourhood located in southwest Mexico City which is known for an urban park called Parque Hundido.
Several Mexican papers are claiming the woman allegedly assaulted died as a result of her injuries, although prosecutors revealed in a statement yesterday the suspect had been arrested for a ‘possible crime of attempted femicide’ and the reports of her death do not yet appear to have been confirmed locally by officials.
The Mexico City State Prosecution Service said alongside a photo of the mugshot of the man arrested: ‘A foreigner has been arrested in the state of Morelos who possibly committed the crime of attempted homicide.
‘Investigations show that after a probable row, the individual possibly physically assaulted a woman inside a residential property in Extremadura Insurgentes in the borough of Benito Juarez.
‘It was discovered the suspect had fled to the municipality of Cuernavaca in Morelos with the aim of evading justice and prosecution investigators applied for an arrest warrant from a judge.
‘The man arrested was taken to the remand prison Varonil Norte.’
