POLICE have discovered a total of 31 decomposing bodies stacked up at a funeral home.
The grim find was made during an inspection of Lankford Funeral Home and Family Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana, following complaints by neighbors of a foul smell in the area.
The police found the bodies "some of which were in the advanced stages of decomposition," alongside the cremated remains of 16, according to a statement from Maj. Isaac Parker, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.
It appears that an air conditioning unit at the funeral home stopped working which made locals report the smell.
A source told WDRB that the owner of the funeral home was left behind in processing the deceased, some of which have been stacking up since March.
The recovered bodies were taken by the Clark County Coroner’s Office which is working to identify the remains.
