Dame Esther Rantzen has banned talk about Brexit at her dinner parties after seeing friends ‘at each other’s throats’ over the table.

The 78-year-old broadcaster revealed that it was the only topic not allowed at her regular get-togethers.

It will also be excluded from her Edinburgh Fringe show next month.

She told The Times: ‘I have a little dining club of friends.

‘Suddenly with Brexit, they were hurling themselves across the table at each other’s throats.

‘I couldn’t have it.

‘The rule for my club is: we are not discussing it.

‘It applies to my audience.

‘I am not having people brawling in the aisle.’
