  • Nick Chitty, 58, said the incident ‘has to be most people’s worst nightmare’

  • Boy was unfazed by the spider until brother suggested it may have laid eggs

This is the disgusting moment a doctor removes a spider from a teenage boy’s ear after it crawled inside during a camping trip in Devon.

At the start of the clip Nick Chitty can be heard warning viewers that the video has graphic content in it and that it might give some people ‘nightmares’.

In the YouTube video he then explains that the spider crawled inside the patient’s ear while on a trip in Devon.

Luckily the occurrence is incredibly rare as ear canals go up 30 degrees and have hair in them to stop dust from getting in

The boy didn’t seem too bothered by the dead spider until his brother suggested the creature may have laid eggs.

Dr Chitty, 58, said: ‘This has to be most people’s worst nightmare but it is very rare.

‘The teenager came in with his family – he felt there was something in his ear. The spider was dead, and I suspect this had happened when his mum had a look around with a cotton bud.

‘She might have accidentally killed the spider and pushed it further down the ear canal.

‘This is pretty uncommon. As you go in the ear canal, most people‘s canal will go up 30 degrees and then there is hair to stop dust from getting in.

‘After that there is the wax gland – this is sticky to stop anything from going in your ear. It’s sticky, is there to moisturise the ear canal and it also has anti-bacterial properties.’

Dr Chitty successfully removed the spider using microsuction.
