A dog was spotted running around a Mississippi neighborhood with a severed human arm hanging from its mouth as authorities search for the head of the headless corpse they discovered.
The bizarre ordeal happened on Saturday when a resident driving along Middle Road in South Jackson saw a dog carrying something unusual in its mouth then called the police.
Video posted to social media showed what appeared to be a German shepherd carrying a charred human arm.
The mystery in the rural Mississippi town deepened.
On Sunday, as Jackson investigators combed the woods near an abandoned home on Terry Road they made the gruesome discovery of a headless body, with one of its arm’s missing.
The victim appeared to be a white male, according to Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart, WLBT News reported.
On Tuesday afternoon, Commander Abraham Thompson told DailyMail.com that they are still working on identifying the victim and still looking for the missing head.
He said that he is unable to confirm if a German shepherd was the dog that located the severed limb, but he did confirm it was a canine.
‘We are following-up on leads and still getting phone calls, ‘ Thompson said.

It is unclear if the body was found the same day or the following day, or if the parts were removed prior to the victim’s death.
The headless body is currently at the Hinds County Morgue awaiting examination.
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba expressed his concern at a Monday news conference regarding the grisly discovery.
‘That is a very graphic and brutal picture. The mutilation of a body, my reaction is one of disgust, is one of concern,’ Lumumba said. ‘It’s not something you grow accustomed to. It’s never something you want to grow accustomed to.’

Jackson Deputy Police Chief Deric Hearn said this is Jackson, Mississippi’s 117th homicide of the year, CBS News reported.
