The doomsday-obsessed mother and stepfather of two missing children from Idaho were located at a Hawaiian resort — as questions continue to swirl about the youngsters’ whereabouts, according to a report.
Local police tracked down Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell in Kauai, Hawaii, on Sunday, news station KSAZ reported. The two kids, who vanished in September, were nowhere to be found.
Law enforcement has been searching for the children, Tylee Ryan, 17, and Joshua Vallow, 7, since November, when a relative called authorities to do a welfare check on Joshua at the family’s home in Rexburg, Idaho.
Family members have expressed concern that a doomsday group that the kids’ mother is affiliated with may have played a role in their mysterious disappearance.
Lori reportedly joined the group, Preparing a People, then wed Daybell, a Latter-day Saints author who has penned several books about the end of the world, around the same time the kids vanished.
Police have said they believe Lori “knows either the location of the children or what has happened to them” but that she had abruptly stopped cooperating in the investigation and left town.
Kauai police tracked down the newlywed couple Sunday and executed a search warrant on their vehicle, KSAZ reported.
“There are no local charges or any current warrants of arrest,” police said in a statement.
Still, Lori was served with a court order to physically produce her two children this week to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare in Rexburg, KSAZ reported. If she fails to do so, she may face charges for contempt of court.
