EASYJET bosses jetted out to Majorca for a jolly in the sunshine while customers languished on the tarmac.

The budget airline’s new chief operating officer David Morgan was among execs who checked into a five-star resort on the Spanish holiday isle on Monday for their annual jamboree.

Meanwhile, thousands of easyJet passengers have had their summer holiday dreams wrecked by last-minute cancellations caused by staff shortages and strikes in recent months.

This week, the airline was reported to the Civil Aviation Authority over its treatment of customers who have their flights cancelled.

EasyJet’s previous COO Peter Bellew resigned on Monday after weeks of turmoil.

EasyJet cancelled 1,394 flights in the last two weeks of June alone.

The following night, nine executives including easyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren, 55, landed in sunny Majorca.

They checked into the luxurious beachside Iberostar Selection hotel on the outskirts of capital city Palma, where rooms start at £500 a night, and enjoyed drinks at its swanky sunset Champagne bar.

On Wednesday, the execs had an hour-long team briefing in a private conference room at the hotel followed by lunch in the sunshine.

In the evening, a fleet of swish Tesla cars chauffeured them to Lundgren’s luxury hillside villa where cocktails and canapes were served on the terrace followed by dinner.

Lundgren, who earns £740,000 a year with an annual bonus of up to £1.5million, is understood to have occasionally worked from the £2million villa rather than easyJet’s Luton HQ. The three-storey property boasts panoramic sea views.

Temperatures on the Balearic isle hit 33C (92F) this week.

The Iberostar Selection hotel, which has direct access to Palma’s sandy beaches, features a wellness spa and “Aliveness programme” which promises to “reconnect you with your most sparkling self”.

It boasts two swimming pools including a rooftop infinity pool and four bars including a pool bar, a fine-wine “bodega” and sunset

Champagne bar offering swanky cocktails and nightly live music.

The hotel’s upmarket Playa Blanca restaurant serves local cuisine including roast suckling pig and locally-caught fish.

Rooms overlooking the sea feature jacuzzis on their balconies.

EasyJet flights have been beset by cancellations and delays caused by three days of cabin crew strikes this month. Further strikes are scheduled for July 15, 16, 17, 29, 30 and 31.

Last night, easyJet said it was “normal practice” for executives to make “base visits” to destinations served by the airline.

A spokesman said: "As a pan European airline and with more than half of our flights originating in Europe, it is entirely appropriate for the easyJet management board to undertake business meetings around the network as well as regularly travel to our European bases to meet with crew and pilots.

“The entire management board remains absolutely focused on the daily operation in order to deliver a safe and reliable service for customers this summer."
