Eco-mob vandalise Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie’s £241million superyacht: Vegan activists spray red and black paint over vessel in Ibiza before holding up ‘You Consume Others Suffer’ sign in latest Futuro Vegetal climate protest

  • Police arrested two male Futuro Vegetal protesters who spray-painted the vessel

Eco vandals targeted Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie’s £241million superyacht in Ibiza today by using fire extinguishers to coat it in red and black paint.

Vegan activists from Futuro Vegetal (Vegetable Future) sprayed the 360ft vessel before holding up a ‘You Consume Other Suffer’ sign in their latest protest stunt.

Futuro Vegetal – who campaign for ending subsidies to livestock farming and transitioning to a plant-based food system – has since posted a statement on social media, which stated that ‘the only reason we continue to maintain an economic system that leads us to eco-social collapse is to sustain the privileges of this small privileged class.’

The superyacht belongs to billionaire US supermarket heiress Nancy Walton Laurie, the daughter of Walmart co-founder James ‘Bud’ Walton. She has a fortune of $7.77 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The yacht has been moored in the marina on the seafront of the port of Ibiza for five days. It was reportedly scheduled to leave Ibiza today, and the vandalism took place as the crew was starting to manoeuvre the craft to leave the mooring. Police say two male protesters have been arrested.

It comes just two days after the Spanish group carried out a similar stunt in Ibiza, when the eco-zealots sprayed paint onto a private jet.

The yacht, which sails under the Jamaican flag, is 360-feet long and weighs 4,523 tons. It was built in the Netherlands in 2017.

Kaos has four decks and can house 31 guests as well as 45 crew members. The largest deck hosts a swimming pool and an aquarium, with other areas on the boat boasting a large cinema, a sauna and full spa facilities.

It also has a helipad, a hot tub and even space for a smaller boat for day trips.

Oceanco, who built the superyacht, is also responsible for Jeff Bezos’ £380million megayacht.

Never a dull day in Miami, as another, mega yacht pulls up outside my front door. Did you know it’s easy to look up any information about a yacht? I learned this while in Portofino, and from this little search, you can tell who owns yachts & who rents them. 🙊 #miami#miamilife#yacht#yachts

Just on Friday the group carried out a similar stunt in Ibiza, when the eco-zealots sprayed paint onto a private jet.

They confirmed in a statement their vandal action was in protest against the climate crisis: ‘The action puts the finishing touch to the “Jets and Yachts, the party is over;” campaign, convened by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza, who demand the ban on private jets and the end of luxury broadcasts.’

Video from the scene showed one of the group’s ‘militants’ speaking in front of the plane. One said: ‘I am here today because it terrifies me, not having a future.’

In the Ibiza video, activist Marina appears to cite the statistic that the richest 1% of the world’s population were responsible for more than twice as much carbon pollution as the poorest half.

She says the luxury industry consumes and contaminates common resources and all life that lives on the planet.

‘The rich are a luxury that we cannot allow. Act!’

Video showed the extent of graffiti covering the plane as eco activists protested ‘luxury’

The nose of the plane was covered in yellow paint, shown in the video shared by Futuro Vegetal

The video then cuts to a man covering the plane in black and yellow paint. He climbs on the wing and appears to glue himself to the fuselage.

On the other side, Marina is seen waving yellow smoke. The plane and ground are seen covered in different paints.

At the end of the video, a message reads: ‘We can’t carry on maintaining your privileges. Eat the rich. Help us.’

Futuro Vegetal describes itself as a collective of civil disobedience and direct action fighting against the climate crisis.

They call for the adoption of a plant-based agrifood system and make various demands of the government for reform.
