EXCLUSIVE: David Beckham checks out of £20,000-a-night suite in five-star Qatar hotel where staff called him ‘Sir David’ – after fans found out he was staying there

• David Beckham, 47,  spent nearly a week in Qatar at a luxurious hotel 
• But he has now checked out after word spread among fans about where he was
• It is unclear whether he has returned to the UK or is at a different hotel in Qatar 
• He has yet to comment on his controversial deal to promote the World Cup 

 David Beckham has checked out of his a £20,000 per night suite in one of Qatar’s most luxurious hotels where staff referred to him as ‘Sir David’ after word spread among fans about where he was staying.

The former England captain spent almost a week in Qatar at the five-star Mandarin Oriental in Doha, which is located in the city’s exclusive Mesheirb district staying in the elegant Baraha View suite.

It is located on the stylish hotel’s top floor and comes with its own dining area, private concierge, open air courtyard and private pool and gym.

A hotel source told MailOnline that Beckham, 47, checked out over the weekend.

It is not known if he has returned to the UK or remains in Qatar for the World Cup at a more discrete location after word spread amongst fans over where he had been staying.

The source added: ‘The staff have loved having him here and referred to him as “Sir David” because he was so respectful and respected back by everyone.

‘He wasn’t seen much at all by the other guests because he had a lovely suite which is like a hotel within a hotel, meaning he didn’t need to mix with them.

‘He’s been very polite and charming to the staff and seems like a very decent man. Sir David is one of the most famous men in world football and it’s been an honour having him here. It’s a pity he’s no longer here but I’m sure he’ll be back. Who wouldn’t love staying here?’

Ironically, Beckham has been regularly snubbed for a Knighthood after becoming implicated along with other celebrities in a tax avoidance scheme. 

He was awarded an OBE in 2003.

While at the lavish Mandarin Oriental, Beckham had use of a personal chef who cooked special meals for him not available on the regular hotel menu. 

This included dining on Japanese Kobe steak, cooked rare and a variety of pasta dishes.

Unfortunately, Beckham missed out on his favourite meal of Gammon and chips while enjoying the hospitality of his wealthy Qatari hosts, as pork is banned in the strict Muslim country.

As he ate, Beckham was able to enjoy stunning views from his suite of Doha.

Beckham was making his way in and out of the hotel via a private lobby entrance and was ferried around Doha in a limousine with blacked out windows, sampling the cultural delights of the city and attending World Cup matches.

Victoria and their children have remained in the UK while Beckham watched the games 

In addition to attending England’s first two World Cup games and the tournament’s opening match, where he sat in the stadium’s VIP box, Beckham also caught up with old friends such as his former Manchester United team Rio Ferdinand.

He posted a on social media of the two of them together with the caption: ‘Good to see you mate.’

Away from football, Beckham has been expanding his cultural horizons and become a public relations officer for his Qatari paymasters.

He spent an afternoon at Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art, attending an exhibition by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama where he also spoke with staff.

He posted pictures on social media of her large colourful art installations and others showing him standing in the middle of a light show appearing in contemplative mood.

Beckham has been in Qatar alone while his wife Victoria and their children remained in the UK.

He signed a controversial £150 million ten-year deal with Qatar to be its ambassador, helping to promote its tourism, culture, and sporting ambitions.

Considered to be a ‘gay icon’ he has been slammed for his association with the nation over its treatment of the LGBTQ community, migrant workers and dubious human rights record.

Homosexuality remains illegal in the Gulf state and anyone found participating in same-sex sexual activity can be punished with up to seven years in prison.

Despite his high profile, Beckham has been keeping a relatively low profile at the World Cup.

After attending the tournament’s opening game the England legend, Becks who is known to love the camera, avoided photographers as he left in a limousine with blacked out windows.

He has yet to comment on his controversial deal to promote the World Cup in Qatar.

Beckham refused to answer reporters questions at the World Cup when asked about the criticism he has received for cashing in on the world’s biggest football event.
