FAMILIES have been evacuated from a popular leisure centre after a huge blaze broke out.

Firefighters were seen racing to the leisure complex at Devon Hills Holiday Village between Paignton and Totnes.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said people were evacuated from the leisure complex.

Fire crews first received reports of a blaze in the sauna of the guest facility at 7:09am.

Approximately 50 percent of the roof is involved in the fire.

The building spans across two floors, measuring approximately 40m by 20m.

More than 10 fire engines are at the scene as well as a water bowser to help put out the fire.

An aerial ladder platform is being used as a water tower to fight the fire.

Teams are also using two main jets to control it.

Emergency services have asked people to avoid the area if possible.

They said: "The A385 between Paignton and Totnes is down to one lane outside Devon Hills Holiday Park as we are accessing the hydrant on the road to fight a large fire at the holiday park's leisure centre."
