North East Lincolnshire assistant coroner, Marianne Johnson, opened the inquest at Cleethorpes Town Hall.
She said that Shannon, who worked at Asda, had lived at Ennerdale Lane in Scunthorpe and had been a passenger in the Audi along with two others a driver on the night of her death.
The others suffered injuries and were taken to hospital by paramedics, who attended the scene with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Humberside Police.
The inquest heard Shannon was identified by her brother Shane. No cause of death was released at the hearing.
The assistant coroner questioned if Shannon was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, which is set to be part of the investigation conducted by Humberside Police.
The inquest was adjourned to a provisional date in January next year.
Following the hearing, a spokesperson for the family said: ‘Shannon’s death is still very fresh and painful to us. The disbelief and anger at all the yet to be clarified circumstances that led to her untimely demise is still very raw for us.
‘It feels unforgiveable that such a young, precious life was taken in a car accident, which we strongly believe was needless and avoidable.
