A father forced his 11-year-old son to play video games for 17 hours straight without sleep after catching him playing on his smartphone in bed.

The exhausted boy – from the city of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China – said his father began the punishment when he found him gaming at 1am.

Instead of confiscating the phone, the father – named in local media as Mr Huang – pulled him out of bed and forced him to play for 17 hours.

Distressing footage shows the boy in his pyjamas being shaken awake to keep playing even when he drops off in his chair.

In a heartfelt note, the boy wrote: ‘So my dad found out. Then my father punished me.

‘Let me play enough. Play until vomit.’

He went on: ‘Well I was woken up several times. It’s going to be all day anyway. From 1am to 6pm. Just played for 17 hours.’

Mr Huang only called off the punishment when his son broke down in tears and agreed to a new pact limiting his playing time.

His father filmed the lesson and shared it on Douyin – China’s version of TikTok – claiming he only did it as a last resort and advised other parents against it.
