Moment ‘faulty’ firework shoots into mother’s living room with her daughter, four, inside and sets her curtains alight
- Chloe Wood, 24, was setting off fireworks in her garden in Bradford, West Yorks
- But one ‘malfunctioned’ and shot into a room with her daughter Scarlett, four
This is the moment a ‘faulty’ firework shot into a mother’s living room where her four-year-old daughter was sitting, setting the curtains on fire.
Chloe Wood was celebrating Bonfire Night with her friends and family and decided to light fireworks in her garden in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
The 24-year-old said one of the fireworks misfired, barely missed her and shot straight into her living room where her young daughter, Scarlett, was sitting.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the beautician said her curtains were set on fire.
Ms Wood said she isn’t certain what type of firework it was, but thinks it was a roman candle, and said she was ‘scared’ and ‘panicked’.

She bought fireworks which shoot out of a box on the floor, but said they ‘malfunctioned’ and didn’t go high enough.
She said: ‘It was a box that you put on the floor and the fireworks shoot up out of the box.
‘The firework must have been faulty and so came out of the box and malfunctioned.
‘I just thought “Oh my god the door is open and that’s just gone off. Something is going to go wrong here”.
‘My friends were out there too so I was scared for everyone but it all happened in a second.’
The sitting room, where the firework flew in, had several people in it including her daughter Scarlett, who is four.
Ms Wood added: ‘I didn’t even notice the curtains had caught on fire until my sister mentioned it afterwards and I watched the video.’

‘I was a bit annoyed. I just thought “For god’s sake my curtains are destroyed”.
‘The curtains were about £100 because it’s a really big window.
‘While it was happening we were panicked but no one was hurt. We just ripped up laughing and laughed it off.
‘Obviously I’ve been to firework shows before and not everything went perfectly, but I’ve never seen a firework shoot sideways and set things on fire.’
