A woman who leapt to action to save a three-year-old boy from drowning in a swimming pool ended up rescuing his pregnant mother as well.
Apartment manager Jennifer Potter was riding in a golf cart with a maintenance worker on Wednesday when she noticed a commotion coming from the deep end of the pool.
A boy was struggling to keep his head out of the water in the swimming pool at Brookwood Apartments in Indianapolis, US.
Jennifer instantly reacted to pull the child out of danger, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department, emptying her pockets, removing her shoes and jumping into the pool.
But once in, Jennifer realised the boy wasn’t the only one who needed saving.
A woman, who turned out to be the boy’s pregnant mother, was submerged beneath him, fully clothed.
Jennifer grabbed the woman, who was six months pregnant, and worked with colleagues to pull her face out of the water and drag her to safety.
"I don’t know how I did it," she told local media. "I just reacted and would hope anyone else would do the same as I did."
Emergency services told Jennifer her actions had saved three lives- the boy, his mother and her unborn baby.
While not a strong swimmer, Jennifer said she acted on instinct and never gave a second thought to going to the boy’s aid.
The woman and her three-year-old son were both taken to hospital following the ordeal but both are expected to make a full recovery.
It is understood that the pair were walking around the pool when he slipped and fell in.
His mother, who is unable to swim, jumped in and held his head out of the water until Jennifer spotted them in trouble.
